The promotion, which ran from May 1 to June 30 inclusive, was a resounding success, and every purchase of a Pirelli car, van or 4×4 tyre counted as an entry into the draw.
Meanwhile, Halesworth Tyre and Exhaust in Halesworth, Suffolk, has scooped the top prize of an all-expenses paid trip to the WRC Rally of Spain in the Grouptyre/Pirelli prize draw competition. The business is a customer of We Sell Tyres (Wholesale) and is owned by Martin Thomas – who worked there for around 18 years before acquiring the company four years ago – and his wife Lisa.
“I’m never really very lucky when it comes to raffles or competitions, so when we got the call to say we’d won the top prize in the Grouptyre/Pirelli promotion and would be going to the World Rally Championships it came as a bit of a shock to say the least,” said Lisa.
“I couldn’t believe it at first, but now the news has sunk in we’re absolutely delighted. it’s brilliant that a small business like ours can win an amazing prize like this. I’m a huge motorsport fan, so am really excited, especially about going behind the scenes at a top class international rally.”
As VIP guests of Pirelli and Ford, Lisa and Martin will have exclusive access to the Pirelli and Ford technical areas during this penultimate round of the 2009 World Rally Championship, enabling them to witness the attention to detail that goes into a leading team’s preparations and the work carried out by the support crew.
One of the major highlights of the trip will be helicopter flights over a couple of the stages – a once in a lifetime experience, during which Lisa and Martin will be able to follow the progress of the field and envy the skills required to drive at speed along the fastest sealed-surface stages in the 2009 WRC calendar.
Two lucky runners up will be in pole position when the 2009 World Rally Championship is decided on October 21. Wayne Moxon from M&S Tyre Services in Stourton, Leeds, and Derek Stewart from Westhill Service Station in Westhill, Aberdeenshire, will enjoy a VIP day out at the final round, the Wales Rally GB, where they will see the world’s top rally teams get to grips with the gravel forest and moorland stages.
Five further runner up prizes of a Pirelli rally jacket are on their way to Nightingale Service Centre in Horsham, DSW in Cresswell, Doug’s Tyres in Castleford, Spennymoor-based Tyre Recovery and Tyre Services in Aberdeen.
